The Taste of Success Project is the result of a $50,000.00 grant that North Geelong Secondary College has obtained from the Diversity and Social Cohesion Program which is administered by the Department of Immigration.
Project aims and objectives
The Diversity and Social Cohesion Program aims to break down existing barriers and prejudices in host communities, and to provide a better understanding within the host communities of new arrival groups. The Taste of Success Project aims to ensure that new arrival students at North Geelong Secondary College have sufficient vocational education, through information and hands on experience, to enable them to gain a clear understanding of the Australian workplace and to choose appropriate career pathways. By building the students’ self-confidence and understanding of the Australian workplace, the students will gain a better sense of belonging to the community.
Summary of The Taste of Success Project
The aims of our Project are being achieved through various cross-cultural activities involving EAL/VCAL students at North Geelong, working with Bellarine Secondary College students as well as the mainstream VCAL students at North Geelong. These activities include team building activities; sport and culture; and Vocational Education. During the Project, the EAL/VCAL students will continue to have regular contact with potential employers through industry tours; structured workplace learning placements, and mentoring.
