Welcome to the Library Resource Centre, a modern, warm and inviting environment for all students, staff and visitors to the College.
Students are encouraged to use this facility and its resources, not only during class time, but before school, at Recess, at Lunchtime and after school. On offer, are a range of resources, including a vibrant collection of books, magazines, newspapers, board games and DVD’s, all of which reflect the curriculum and meet the recreational needs of the students. In addition, there are several Desktop Computers available for use and a number of Laptops available for loan during class time. Appreciation of books and the enjoyment of reading is actively encouraged by the Library staff.
There are several programs and events that are held throughout the year to promote Library and College based activities. Bookmarkz! (Reading For Life), is a program designed to promote the enjoyment of reading to all Year 7 students at the College and to familiarise them with the resources on offer in the Library Resource Centre.
Visiting Authors and Illustrators pass on invaluable skills to the students in preparation for the annual Write Now! Competition, which is held in conjunction with Children’s Book Week. Children’s Book Week is a major highlight of the Library calendar. A number of activities take place throughout the week including entertaining readings by Guest Readers from the staff and Cake Decorating activities, which see the students using their creative skills to decorate cakes in a book title theme. The Library Resource Centre also hosts a colourful and vibrant display of books, written and illustrated by the students.
The GAP (Get Ahead of the Pack) Homework Program is held in the Library from 3.10 pm to 4.30 pm (Monday to Friday). The GAP Homework Program is open to all students from Years 7 to 12. Tutors from the Pre-Service Teacher program at Deakin University will be at the College on Monday and Tuesday afternoons to assist students with their homework. The Tutors will focus on English and Humanities on Mondays and Maths and Science on Tuesdays. However, the Tutors should be able to help most students in any subject.
